Who are the Ngarabal people?

 

We are the First Peoples of the northern New England Tablelands of New South Wales and southeastern Queensland. Our connection to the land spans thousands of years, with a rich cultural heritage that includes language, traditional knowledge, ceremonies, and ongoing stewardship of our tauri (homelands).

 

What is the purpose of Ngarabal.org.au?

 

Ngarabal.org.au serves to share and celebrate the culture, history, and aspirations of the Ngarabal and Kwiambal people. The website aims to promote community engagement, preserve and share traditional knowledge, and create opportunities for our community to thrive socially and economically.

 

Can I become a member of the Corporation?

 

To become a member of the Severn River, Ngarabal, and Kwiambal Aboriginal Corporation, you must be a Ngarabal or Kwiambal descendant, have proof of genealogy, and be over the age of eighteen years. Our Rule Book is available here. Please send completed forms to hello@ngarabal.org.au.

 

What is the Corporation’s policy on Confirmation of Aboriginality?

 

It is not usual practice for the Corporation to endorse Confirmation of Aboriginality papers. To be eligible for a Confirmation of Aboriginality, a person must be a proven active member of the Severn River Ngarabal and Kwiambal Aboriginal Corporation and known by our community for at least five years, have proven ancestry, and identify as Ngarabal or Kwiambal.
