2025-26 Language Revival Program

Severn River Ngarabal and Kwiambal Aboriginal Corporation is pleased to announce that its Language revival program is open for registration.

Commencing in Late July/ early August, the program is a community-driven initiative proudly delivered on Country in Tenterfield and online.

About the Program

The Ngarabal Language Revival Program is a community-led initiative proudly delivered on Country in partnership with the NSW Aboriginal Languages Trust. Running from July 2025 to June 2026, the program offers weekly two-hour workshops designed to bring the Ngarabal language back into everyday use.

Sessions will be held in a classroom-style environment during school terms. Workshops will be led an experienced facilitator and grounded in cultural practice to make language accessible, engaging, and connected to place.

The program is a language course and a space for cultural renewal and community connection. It strengthens identity, supports intergenerational knowledge-sharing, and helps ensure that the voices of our Ancestors are not lost, but live on in our children and in the ways we speak to each other every day.

This initiative was developed to meet local need. While strong language programs already exist in places like Glen Innes and Inverell, many Ngarabal people in Tenterfield have faced barriers to access due to distance, cost, or limited availability. This program brings language home, making it easier for our mob and the wider community to take part.

Spaces are limited, and priority will be given to Ngarabal adults and children, as well as other local community members living in or around Tenterfield. If you are interested in joining, please visit our Contact Us page to register your interest. We encourage early contact, as places will fill quickly.

Together, we can bring the language back. Strong, proud, and spoken on Country where it belongs.
