Ngarabal artist’s work selected as the national face of NAIDOC Week 2025

Proud Ngarabal man and artist Jeremy Worrall has been selected as the winner of the 2025 National NAIDOC Week Poster Competition, marking a powerful moment of cultural recognition for both the artist and his community.
His artwork, titled Urapun Muy (One Fire), was selected from more than 360 submissions across the country and will now serve as the official face of NAIDOC Week celebrations nationwide. The piece draws on themes of strength, unity and cultural continuity, resonating with this year’s NAIDOC theme: Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud & Proud.
“This has been a dream six years in the making,” Worrall told SBS/NITV. “To have my work selected to represent NAIDOC Week across the country means everything. This painting is not just mine, it belongs to my mob, my ancestors, and to all those who continue to carry our cultures forward.”
Worrall’s artistic style blends traditional symbolism with contemporary techniques. His winning artwork features vibrant reds and ochres layered with motifs that represent connection to Country, spiritual continuity, and the ongoing fire of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander resistance, celebration, and identity.
The NAIDOC Poster Competition, supported by the National Indigenous Australians Agency, has become a significant national platform for First Nations artists. Winning designs are distributed across schools, government agencies, workplaces, and homes ensuring visibility and recognition of First Nations stories and voices throughout NAIDOC Week and beyond.
The Severn River, Ngarabal and Kwiambal Aboriginal Corporation (SRNKAC) joins the wider community in congratulating Jeremy on this outstanding achievement.
“This is a proud moment for all of us,” said Uncle Theo Wright, Chairman of SRNKAC. “Jeremy’s work captures the strength of spirit and cultural pride that NAIDOC stands for. His voice carries ours.”
Posters will be available to order from the official NAIDOC website in the lead-up to this year’s celebrations.
